March 2168
Story 8 - Session 11

The following is a summary of March, 2168. Things that are grayed out are not universally known by the rest of the group.

General Notes
  • Kuku and Vikky’s relationship has become public knowledge.
Al
  • Has a birthday.
  • Reworks her schedule. Thurs-Sun, 12a-8a (Work), Sun-Mon (Help Gabe with his campaign), Tues-Weds (Hospital volunteering),
  • Steps up story time visits to kids with chemo and dialysis.
  • Collects an opinion poll on his mayoral run from police, fire, and rescue. (The opinions are mixed due to Gabe’s stance on hammering out the police.)
Kuku
  • Prepares for his DARPA hack by amassing the proper server equipment, housed in an abandoned building bought through a shell corporation.
  • Hacks into DARPA, searching for anything related to viruses, biological warfare, Cruelty, and Deathlords/Abyssals (specifically the Dowager of the Irreverent Vulgate in Unrent Veils). He learns DARPA has no research into weaponized diseases and information on Project Patriot: a cooperative with the US government in research of synthesizing Neosapien powers, to allow the army/FBI/CIA respond to Neosapien threats. The first synthetic Neosapien, codename WASHINGTON, will be ready to do or die by the end of the year. The incidental information regarding essence-reactive materials provides Vikky with a pattern for her silk armor.
Carmen
  • Has lost a fair amount of weight.
  • Guides the bakery more into catering, favoring non-profits and charities for networking purposes.
  • Picks up coding jobs to help fund a potion-making laboratory.
  • Continues assisting Gabe by supporting a growing grassroots campaign, attending local meets, and scheduling meetings for greater publicity.
  • Continues setting up a city-wide watch dog group.
Sophia
  • Continues performing in the bad parts of town, using social charms to befriend locals and regulars for informative purposes.
  • Begins deep cover as young Julian, trolling north side’s worst parts with a goal of infiltrating the Boneyard Boys.
  • Also begins personal monitoring of the Boneyard in various animal forms.
Vikky
  • Continues work on silk armor.
  • Focuses more into finding occult and arcane books to furnish her library.
Nixie
  • Continues her multiple plans for Thunder City, including beginning a conversation for transit revamps like a second bridge, enhancing the city’s fine arts programs, overseeing her smaller watchdog groups, and encouraging better use of would-be discarded foods.
  • Is more of a rare occurrence these days for interaction.
Vincent
  • Seeks investments.
  • Opens up sewing commissions online.
Gabriel
  • Formal candidacy goes public.

Al
  • Helps Gabe with his mayoral campaign by reporting on her associates’ reactions
  • Acquires a squirrel familiar
  • As First Responder, keeps an ear out for anything resembling Cruelty, Drago’s effects, or other sapes doing good deeds
  • Asks Raven if anyone has come in or out of the Cathedral gateway; Raven reports it’s been gathering dust since Halloween
  • Puts together car parts found by Carmen for Nixie
Kuku
  • Continues to work on setting up a group fund
  • Looks into medical labs that might be working on creating viruses, and with help from Nixie pinpoints the CDC and DARPA as potential targets to look into
  • Sets up a good hacking computer with multiple proxies in the dummy location of a shell corporation (etc.)
  • Interviews a virologist who offers little about creating a hypothetical cure and states
  • Works in tandem with Vikky to revive the missing Creepers
Carmen
  • Helps out with Gabe’s campaign by attending local meetings and staking out the best people for Gabe to talk to in order to help a grassroots campaign started
  • Helps out with Gabe’s campaign by asking TCPD contacts about Chief Iron’s plans for corruption, which are unclear or non-existent
  • Compiles information about local break-ins in regards to drug stores, clinics, and the hospital, and writes an article about it; no haloperidol theft has been reported
  • Hires a few more employees at the bakery so it’s mostly self-sustaining, and offers jobs to Kuku and Vikky
  • Occasionally finds and fixes junkyard car parts for Nixie
Vikky
  • Checks Al’s candy from Dr. Candy and finds it is not remotely supernatural
  • Informs the group about what the crystal at Dr. Candy’s lab likely is (possibly a Raksha’s Heart grace)
  • Brings up the Unity of Dreams spell; Al and Carmen agree to join Vikky for the trial run, and others will wait to hear about it before deciding for round 2
  • Pursues creating essence reactive silk for armor purposes and requests spools of magic material thread from Nixie
  • Towards the end of the month, begins trying to gather materials/books for the school, with help from Nixie
  • Works in tandem with Kuku to revive the missing Creepers
Sophia
  • Returns to Dr. Candy’s with Kuku to arrange another crystal trip. On the resulting trip, she witnesses the Supreme suplex God and walk backward into hell. The resulting battle greatly reshaped the earth, and links up with the Toba catastrophe theory.
  • Learns to play guitar and starts performing in dive bars, using the opportunity to ask around about Drago and gang activities
  • With help from Nixie, searches for then locates the ~20 missing Creepers in small, graffiti-decorated shrines in unowned, derelict places of Thunder City. With the group’s agreement, they’re left there and monitored until the person tending to them (Morrie Turner) is seen and subsequently followed home by Sophia. She reports Morrie has ‘transformed’ from Hollow to Drago’s Puppet, a state that neither Vikky nor Kuku can cure. One other Creeper befalls the same fate. Both are left to their own but closely monitored.
  • Keeps an eye and ear out for new graffiti
  • Takes considerable lengths to investigate and mentally list gangs of all size
Nixie
  • Works on her laundry list of “Improve Thunder City” items, including working on lowering rent in the worst areas, helping fund schools and protecting at-risk youth, and minimizing curb crime.

  • Tries to get his investments somewhere more secure
  • Assists Sophia

Story 8 - Session 8

The group trucks to Vikky’s manse sans Carmen, joined by Gabriel and a few pizzas to discuss their thoughts on Dr. Candy. General consensus is that he’s probably not involved with Drago, but given his drug stores, he should be monitored. Nixie receives word back on the contents of the vial they found at Halloween: just water… and a shitload of viruses. If the vial from Halloween is the same substance as the jam jar of Drago’s drug, the chances of it being a natural or even mutated virus seem very slim, given the short incubation period and averse effects. If they’re separate? There’s not much to go off to determine what Drago’s drug is at all.

The conversation veers off when slightly more lucid Sophia announces she witnessed visions – memories – while tripping. The first is of Cassie (Vincent’s past life) speaking about the Forgotten Hero, and subsequently removing his desiccated corpse from the cross at the Queen of Thunder’s tower. In this vision/memory, Sophia recalls the Forgotten Hero was Nero Drago, or at least resembled him. The second is of a life long, long ago, with a palace of orichalcum and obsidian, wherein a council was being held, led by the “Supreme,” a black-skinned man with four arms. In it, the Supreme announces he has come to a decision regarding the Visitor’s offer. Sophia recalls no more.

Gabriel brings up the point: perhaps they’ve discovered a reliable, if far from ideal, way to recall past and hidden memories. General consensus is mixed, some in favor of pursuing, others wary, but it’s generally agreed to pay Dr. Candy another visit after a breather. Nixie briefly grills Sophia for specific details from her memories, planning to research to see if she can confirm their validity.

An uninvited guest interrupts their meeting, to Book’s great delight and everyone else’s unease: Number Four, a superior in Nixie’s organization, who comes to share important information with them. According to him, the contents of the Halloween vial are catastrophically dangerous, designed to spread extremely quickly with an incubation period of minutes, transferred over any sort of bodily fluid. Symptom-wise, it matches up to Drago’s jam jar drug, but, according to Moguro-san Number Four, “the defining characteristic of infection is not an urge to kill. It’s an urge to hurt,” evil incarnate in absolutely no way subtle.

Any hope for a cure or treatment is in the works. Working theory is that the Halloween massacre was a feint after all, to cover up the virus’s introduction to Thunder City’s water supply. It is very probably not of this Earth, possibly from Malfeas or the Underworld, and quite possibly generated through the efforts of the Deathlord the Dowager of the Irreverent Vulgate in Unrent Veils (who sustains only one Abyssal servant at a time). Dr. Candy Land
Story 8 - Session 7

Following some “off-the-street” guidance, the group searches for what they believe is a drug dealer named Dr. Candy. That search leads them to… a candy shop, and Dr. Candy himself. Kuku’s attempts to lure Dr. Candy into giving himself away don’t go as planned. (Invisible) Nixie creates a diversion for Sophia to sneak into the back rooms, then Al distracts him as Sophia, then Kuku, open a hidden door and descend into a massive drug laboratory.

Within said laboratory, they find a plethora of pills of all sorts, an entire drum of LSD, and terrarium featuring a very strange crystal – “like the platonic solid of some abstract mathematical concept.” Keeping with her collection of samples across the laboratory, Sophia gears up to take a sample of this as well… and goes completely comatose.

Kuku hauls Sophia back up into the store proper, where he and the others detain and confront Dr. Candy about his going-ons. He calmly explains that there’s nothing to ‘fix’ Sophia with – “she’s already fixed.” The crystal? One of the Many-Angled Ones, the dwellers at the borders of geometry. He admits he produces hallucinogens – natural, chemical, and even some home-brew compounds. He denies even knowing about Nero Drago, let alone making any drugs for him. For mass producing illegal substances, he’s a pretty amenable guy and even offers to analyze the vial compound if they get him a sample. Seemingly, beyond the drugs, he’s harmless and another dead end.

The Queen of Thunder
Story 8 - Session 4

The good feelings of Christmas don’t have long to linger. Sophia ropes the group together to discuss a worryingly mysterious letter Vincent cannot recall receiving on his way home from the Christmas party, tucked between gifts. It’s undoubtedly from Nero Drago. Before it’s opened, Nixie inspects it for trace substances and Vikky checks for supernatural residue; both come up clean, and Sophia reads its contents:

Dear Sophia,
It’s the season for offers of good will. So, I’m giving you a present.
If you want to know who I am, find “Thunder City’s forgotten hero.”
A free hint, from me to you.
Merry Christmas.
Let’s laugh together next year.

On skimming the message, Carmen deduces that it was written with the intention to tease, provoke, upset, and tantalize. The troubling question of how it got into Vincent’s hand is eclipsed by a discussion on the merits and detriments of looking into the knowledge Drago has offered to the group. Is he the forgotten hero? Does it play into the group’s past lives, of which they know very little about? How is the Queen of Thunder involved? What exactly happened with the Queen of Thunder, anyway? Is it wise to go down this path, when Drago has delivered this information with the intention of upsetting them?

With a little neosapien magic, Nixie announces some key information: the Queen of Thunder died on March 8th, 2007. They decide to both look into the events from Thunder City’s hidden past and catch up with the rehabilitated warehouse victims in hopes of learning anything about “their” past and Drago. Amidst the planning, it occurs to Kuku to wish, from Gabriel, for the memories of his past life on the day of the Queen’s death.

It’s a terrible wish to make.
