Small Change

Warrant for Arrest
Story 4 | Session 12

After a few days’ break, the team gets back together to discuss who they’re going to hit next and how. However, as Al is caught out of traffic, Vikky receives some unwanted guests: the police. They’ve apparently come with a warrant for (an unspecified) arrest for a young Indian woman by the name of Lakshmi Bidarkar, who they claim to have seen enter the premises. Despite Vikky’s assurance she hasn’t seen a woman by that name and Gabriel’s attempts to legal-persuade the men off the private property, the two police men head upstairs. Meanwhile, invisible Nixie texts Vincent in real time; Sophia flees the room as a pigeon before the policemen make it up to the apartment.

They question everyone within if they’ve seen a young Indian woman, and stress the potential circumstances of obstructing an arrest. Though they don’t buy everyone’s statements, they do leave the premise. Sophia returns shortly after, begrudgingly admitting that she is Lakshmi Bidarkar and that the police were, in fact, there for her, likely for various misdemeanor and petty crimes. It’s briefly discussed what can be done about this, whether “killing” Lakshmi or something else, though a decision is never reached.

Story 4 | Session 11

The fight against Matthew ends in little time; minimal (rather, no) injuries are sustained except for the tree Matthew lit in a blaze. Al and Carmen toss the body into the fire, to Nixie’s disappointment; she retrieves Matthew’s ring to leave for his absent widow. The group disperses into the night without further incident.

Story 4 | Session 10

The team moves in on Matthew Comstock’s log house in the woods after Sophia scopes the grounds ahead of them. As the rest move into position, Al and Carmen (ultimately needlessly) debate who’s going to knock on Comstock’s door to get his attention; the man of the hour throws the door open long before they’ve reached a decision, his mini-gun a’blazing.

Story 4 | Session 9

Carmen and Alhambra briefly leave the room to let the group discuss their potential to join the group. While there is a little concern about Carmen’s ability to deal with the group’s violent goals, it’s generally agreed upon that the two of them are generally approved — pending a trial run. The two are brought back in and informed of their trial period. The group takes the opportunity to discuss expectations and requests anyone might have of their teammates, and settle on how to move forward with Matthew Comstock.

Nixie informs everyone they should strike in the following order: Matthew Comstock, Clementine (who might be open to diplomacy), Jules Bisquette (who may benefit the city), then Silas Comstock (who might also be open to diplomacy).

ANOTHER Another Sun
Story 4 | Session 8

The Lunars Plus One return from their recon mission to a sleepy apartment. When Gabriel and Al wake back up, Sophia shares their findings:

  • Silas Comstock’s house is heavily secured with surveillance cameras and (as far as they can tell) a light amount of guards. The ground floor windows seem vulnerable; the second floor windows are protected. The house is somewhat isolated from those around it.
  • Matthew Comstock lives deep in the forests in a rather unassuming, simple and, seemingly, unguarded log cabin – no cameras or guards to speak of.
  • Jules Bisette lives in more of a neighborhood in a small one story home with a basement twice as large as the ground floor, which includes what may well be a storm shelter.
  • Clementine Wallace resides in an 8th floor apartment back in town, with no direct fire exit to speak of and security guards in the building’s lobby.

Nixie requests some time to learn more about these targets before they proceed, so they leave it at that for the night and return the next evening, having also determined to ‘interview’ the other Solar Vikky and Nixie met: Carmen.

Story 4 | Session 7

With a work week off, the group reconvenes on Sophia’s request; Gabriel invites Al back to join them, on his own. Sophia presents them with a pizza box, wherein lies not a pizza but the King member information she mentioned the week prior. The papers detail the addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and similar contact information for Silas “The Brains” Comstock, Matthew “The Brawns” Comstock, Clementine “Rose” Wallace, and Jules “Quiet” Bisette. Pictures of the four are also included.

Before they proceed with planning the next move, they settle in to discuss what Al’s new roll will be – and if she’ll have a roll in the first place. To make a point about his intuition about Al, Gabriel, in a surprising display, attempts to attack Al with a knife; she deflects it easily, proving there’s something that hasn’t been said about her yet. With some careful conversation wading, it becomes clear that Al is a Solar neosapien as well. With this much, it’s determined that they at least trust her enough to let her listen in on their plan making and join them for a test run.

Sophia suggests a preliminary look over the four locations to get an idea of what they’re working with before they settle in and decide the who, when and how of their next hit. She, Vikky and Vincent set off to do just that, leaving Al, Gabriel and Nixie behind to chat it up.

The Smoldering Remains of Volcano
Story 4 | Session 6

Al joins the group back inside the (now empty) bookstore for some coffee and a pleasant chat about crime, the syndicates, Thunder City and kicking bad guys in the nuts. It’s quickly obvious she shares certain interests with the Small Change gang and that they might benefit from some mutual back-scratching, what with Al’s medical background and all.

Partway through the conversation, Nixie gets a call of good news from Gabriel. He joins them after Nixie and Al make a pizza run (to celebrate). Though there’s initial reservation on whether Al should be present to receive the good news (considering the line of work the group does), Gabriel’s judgement call is that she’ll be fine to keep around for a while longer.

The news? The remaining Penas have left town, taking what was left of Volcano with them.

One syndicate down, three more to go.

Story 4 | Session 5

The next day, Cheveyo calls the group together at the Suns’ HQ. The Suns themselves seem restless and nervous; Cheveyo informs the rest that he plans to march on Volcano to strike the finishing blow… without them. He announces that the clear lack of trust or ability to trust between him and the group speaks for itself, and that he will continue to work against the syndicates, but on his own. The team leaves on somber but “amicable” note.

When they return to the bookstore, the day is interrupted by a gang member brazenly attempting to tag Vikky’s shop window. A customer to the store – later identified as Al Meers – leaps into action to stop the man. (Nixie and Sophia do as well, fire-manning down the light pole outside.) The man threatens to draw his hefty gun on them when Al and Nixie press in on him, and their attempts to wrest free the firearm don’t blow over as well as Sophia’s, who shoots the gun out of hand. Daunted by the sight of a jade pistol, the guy flees into the city, leaving Vikky to clean up his fresh mess and Al to introduce herself.

Shouldn't Exist
Story 4 | Session 4

The battle of maids is a brief but intense volley of bullets. Tick-Tock does not flee the scene and is as weak an opponent as his body guards are worthy. They manage to land a few blows on Vincent. Sophia needs little encouragement to join the fight through a self-made hole in the ceiling while Vikky hangs back. Cheveyo and Nixie take Tick-Tock down with little issue, though the maids give Cheveyo (and Sophia, to a greater degree) some trouble.

Something’s amiss, though. Cheveyo loses his composure when one of the maids screams at him, “You shouldn’t even exist! You already almost ruined this world!” In a moment, tears have sprung to her eyes, her stoicism in pieces. “Even the Street Knight realized it! That’s why she killed herself! She knew… She knew she’d only tear this world to pieces.” He plows her down in an instant and attempts to regain his cool.

Another felled maid oddly says, “I can’t feel my… parts,” and dares Sophia to shoot her, ending the night. Vikky asks and Cheveyo warns Sophia to pause, so they can learn more about what the maids were talking about, but their requests go ignored. Their questions die with the maid.

Cheveyo retrieves a phone from Tick-Tock and the hard drive to the only computer in the house; there is nothing else worth keeping in the house. Cheveyo leaves the group and the rest meet back up at Vikky’s place.

“There’s something about all this that sits kind of weird with me, and I just realized what it is. First off, hearing about the Street Knight’s suicide. Also hearing them called ‘her’, but maybe there’s just some debate over which of those is correct. But here’s what gets me about the first part: How did they even know that?”

Story 4 | Session 3

The team splits on arriving at Tick-Tock’s place. Vikky heads for the roof while the others contemplate what to do about the guards and surveillance camera in the back yard. Nixie takes out the later before luring the two guards away from the door, allowing herself and Sophia (who shifts to a tiger) to take them out. With their way in now unguarded, Sophia joins Vikky on the roof to watch for stragglers while Nixie (who goes invisible), Vincent and Cheveyo head in. It takes very little time for them to encounter Tick-Tock… and his large entourage of battle maids.
