Manse Building and Winter Plans
Story 8 - Session 2

The next day, Kuku, Vincent, Nixie, Al, Vikky, and Carmen gather to record and publish their address to the public RE: Chief Irons and Halloween night. The reception is surprisingly quite positive, and it’s an instant hit. The only comment of note is from an account named #4, that reads only “Well played.” The comment is deleted shortly afterwards.

Over the next two months, Thunder City is quiet. Almost too quiet. The group takes the chance to work on a few long-term projects:

  • Vikky passes the bookstore on to the new manager and, in mid-late November, constructs her new manse-school. It’s a spectacular feat and garners some expected attention from local news for its sudden appearance overnight.
  • Carmen sneaks Kuku into the hospital so that he can attempt to cure a Drago warehouse victim back into coherence. It fails. A few days later, Vikky attempts counter-magic. It works in part, leaving the victims drained but no longer catatonic and shattering whatever enchantment was on them into green snakes that disappear rapidly. She periodically repeats this over the course of late November and December. Kuku follows up these visits with essence-charged pep talks himself, hastening the victims’ healing process.
  • Kuku’s plans for a warehouse for the group are completed in mid November. It’s equipped with a full running track, numerous exercise machines, and a plethora of wall climbing equipment.
  • Over November and December, Carmen publishes a few articles aimed to promote positive city-wide opinions regarding Chief Irons and Neosapiens in general.
  • Carmen opens her charity bakery, Made With Love (name pending), on December 1st.
  • Vincent sews, Al works, and Gabe stands alone in an empty room.

Fate of Chief Irons and the Bookstore
Story 8 - Session 1

Ten days have passed since the theatrics of Halloween. Those who weren’t living at the bookstore before have gone their separate ways but reconvened today at Vikky’s behest. In the time between then and now, the news reports pressure on Chief Irons for lacking to step in at the battle at the Cathedral, despite having a Warstrider in his possession. Control over Neosapiens has become a hot topic of discussion; so has the Halloween Heroes, who have been catapulted into instant meme fame as Cowboy Hamburglar, Tiger Lily, Reaper Daddy and Robo Red Riding Hood.

Having finally finished his project, Kuku distributes new, high-security phones jam-packed with functionality to everyone. Features include: waterproof, mostly indestructible, good mics and cameras, earpiece syncing, and a panic button, GPS-tracking system with ‘Muppets Forever’ as a safe word.

Vikky’s big news is quite big, and sad. The time has come for her to give up the bookstore and raise a manse. She’s made all the necessary arrangements for it (aside from determining where she, Kuku, and Nixie will stay in the interim, once the bookstore has been passed over), but she asks for assistance regarding the actual spell needed to build it – a hefty 12 hour long ritual. The group is eager to support her, and discusses the logistics of how best to handle this. (It involves a double layer of obscured fencing, to start.)

The brief mention of potential long-term plans (for Kuku, funding a communal account and for Carmen, the means to fund community projects) is cut short by Vincent’s enthusiastic discovery that he is now a millionaire, thanks to Gabriel’s wish-making!

Conversation eventually returns to Chief Iron’s predicament. They decide to give him a call (well, have Kuku give him a call) to ask him directly what they can do to help redeem him in the eyes of the public. Kuku reports that he seemingly doesn’t care what they do about it one way or another, but still… They decide the solution is to issue a video, in their costumes and faces and voices obscured as the Halloween Heroes, commending Irons for his choices on Halloween night in hopes it might assuage some of the pressure placed on him.

Double Feint
Story 7 - Session 21

Sophia knows where Nero Drago is. The Sycamore Lodge. With Gabriel.

It’s certainly a trap, but the group is in a flurry to hurry back to the lodge to prevent or stop whatever tragedy is about to happen, until Sophia receives a call from Drago and his order that they’re not done yet. The Cathedral was a double feint; the real problem lies within the Boneyard. According to Drago, a glass container will be transported to the river, and that at all costs must it neither be allowed to reach the river nor broken open. With Gabe acting as insurance forcing their hand, the group turn to the Boneyard instead.

They find – barely, at that – a single Fox-masked figure waiting for them in the shadows of the Boneyard, with a single small vial on his waist. The subsequent fight takes suspiciously little time or effort, the vial secured by, of all things, Marxie’s mouth. The Fox figure is dispatched of before any questions can be asked, or answered.

Most of the group returns to the lodge afterwards, coming across a ruffled but unharmed Gabe. Drago’s trail hasn’t just gone cold but evaporated, but at least, as far as they can tell, the city is safe from a fate worse than death. For now.

Knocking on Death's Door
Story 7 - Sessions 18-20

The time has come. Halloween passes mostly uneventfully. Vikky hosts trick or treating at the bookstore, and after-hours, the group convenes for a divided costume party at the Sycamore Lodge. (Costumes as follows: Nixie, shrine maiden; Vikky, herself (previously arachnae); Al, traditional native garb; Kuku, dapper grim reaper; Vincent, the Hamburglar; Sophia, Wendy’s; Carmen, bunny red riding hood; and Gabe, angel lawyer.)

When the clock strikes midnight, their fate unravels. Through Sophia’s territory and Carmen’s minions, the report comes through that the Cathedral door has opened. Off the group goes, arriving at the scene shortly after and without much fanfare. The army has already cleared the Cathedral out, terrified club goers forced to wait their turn at the inevitable death by the hand of the Razorwire Catamite, a familiar face, and two new ones in the twins Hanzel and Gretal. The three are attended to by units of several dozens of, respectively, Bonecutters, hungry ghosts and Boneyard thugs. The group’s arrival was, naturally, anticipated.

The war that follows is brief but tumultuous. No one but their enemies sustain significant damage, though most everyone’s energy is exhausted and some spirits doubly demoralized by the time the last general falls. With limited casualties of club goers and the living people who comprised of two-thirds of the army, they have seemingly, successfully prevented the undead from taking over Thunder City.

But they’re not done yet. Moments after the battle ends, all chance at celebration falters when Sophia announces she knows where Nero Drago is.

Death Approaches
Story 7 - Session 17

Finally, Raven gets back to the group with news on the inevitable undead army. Unfortunately, it’s not good news: the army has been granted permission to use the gateway. The unresisted siege on Thunder City is now just a matter of time. With no indication of when they might strike, there’s a flurry of action and anxiety.

  • Al has crafted a fantastic map detail ideal routes in and around Thunder City from all magically important points of interest. Kuku takes a picture of it and forwards it to the group for easy access later.
  • Kuku has spoken to Chief Irons, who has agreed to some informal, lawful cooperation with regards to the undead army (such as holding off sending in the mortal police force unless absolutely necessary). He’s also shown interest in cooperating when it comes to Nero Drago, if strictly by the books.
  • Nixie’s scrying has proven ineffective; there’s just too many anomalies at play.
  • Both Kuku and Carmen’s attempts to secure blueprints of the Cathedral fail. To help compensate, Carmen asks her three Minis stationed outside of the Cathedral to send pictures of the outside.
  • Ear piece communicators are distributed to all group members. (Except for Book and Gizmo.)
  • Kuku and Carmen respectively hack into TV stations and cell phone services for the express execution of emergency broadcasts to the public, when the time comes for them.
  • Al calls Raven back to ask about a timeline. Unfortunately, Raven doesn’t know when the army is arriving, but may send a message redeemable through a later favor.

A little more prepared and a little less frantic, the group parts with Vincent’s suggestion to have a Halloween party at the Sycamore Lodge – one last hurrah, possibly, before shit really hits the fan.

It Was You
Story 7 - Session 14

As the fog monster clears, their attentions turn back on the love demon twins for a brief and ultimately not that helpful questioning. They do more or less confirm the man who summoned them was Nero Drago, and that he summoned them in the warehouse next door, but beyond that there isn’t much information to glean before they disappear, their duty finished. Knowing full well that a trap very likely waits for them in the other warehouse, they head over nevertheless.

Love Demons
Story 7 - Session 13

Now that they understand where (at least probably) the undead army might come from, the group is tasked with deciding whether or not to go along with Raven/Fugue’s offer. Ultimately they decide they might as well, considering Raven’s missing person may have something to report as far as their Nero Drago problem goes. Once they get some specifics on who they’re looking for, they quickly triangulate a certain Miss Sawyer’s cellphone location – some warehouse very near the one where Sophia encountered Drago for the first time.

On arrival, they learn that Sawyer is unharmed but being held captive by two young and peppy twins that the group very quickly identifies as supernatural. They are Fluiluhn, the demon of love, summoned by a “scary man” to watch over Sawyer and wait for someone (apparently the group) to arrive and collect her. The scary man is likely none other than Drago himself. The bouncing bundles of joy harass them about their love lives, particularly settling on Kuku, teasing him with the possibility of finding Ana’s ghost. (Carmen, meanwhile, escorts Sawyer away from the two and to relative safety by the door.) He even has to be physically drawn away from them by Nixie, Carmen AND Al – and right when he is, two clouds of putrid, green fog close in on them. Whatever horrifying spider-scorpions are in the clouds of fog don’t pose much of a threat and are swiftly dispatched.
